Einar's Notes
Present, Jim, JP, Lawrence, John Rogers, Duncan, Anthony, Mary Lermitte, Einar.
Apologies: Colin & Paula Attle, John Coote, Stephen Jeffrey
Notes.
1. The structure of the Revolutions Group and the Cycle Forum has been amended as a result of Jim’s decision to take a less prominent role in Worthing Revolutions and the Cycle Forum due to recently becoming a father. Jim nominated John Rogers to take over Chairmanship of the Cycle Forum and I will co-ordinate the Revolutions meetings.
2. Revolutions will in future meet on the second Wednesday of each month at the Beechwood Hall Hotel, Worthing. For the rest of this year the dates are therefore (with tentative topics for discussion):
- 11th August – Website, 20s Plenty (Funding Issues/Council Meeting etc)
- 8th September – Forum preparation (date tbc but will be mid September)
- 13th October – Forum debrief,
- 10th November – Prep for 2011,
- 8th December – Prep for 2011 & Christmas tipple!
Times will always be 19:30 – 21:00 unless otherwise stated.
3. Cycle Forum dates will depend on the availability of the Gordon Room at Worthing Town Hall, to be confirmed by John.
4. A requirement was identified for better coordination with other groups such as Transition Town Worthing etc. It was agreed that Revolutions should sit alongside these groups as opposed to ‘competing’ with them. John Rogers made the suggestion that Revolutions should extend its remit to cover the Adur area.
5. General discussion.
- Need to identify three priorities to raise with WBC/WSCC regarding cycle infrastructure. Extension of the seafront route to Sea Lane Cafe, improvement to NCR2 at the Brooklands traffic lights and ‘sorting’ the NCR2 at Lancing Sailing Club seemed to come out as front runners.
- Although Derek Whittington is no longer in WSCC Highways, he is still West Sussex ‘Cycle Champion’
- A need was identified to organise more rides; Family rides and a Worthing Revolutions Audit Ride around the facilities and infrastructure that exist and to discuss what’s required. A ‘Domesday Book’ could be developed on the website.
- NCN2 – Clarification required on Aquarena plans and how access will feed into NCN2. Also with Splash Point being opened up for cyclists, Mary Lemitte expressed a requirement to open up the path from King George V to Sea Lane Café as it is too narrow in its present state.
- JP raised the issue of a BMX/Skate park for Worthing. Homefield Park does not have lighting or CCTV so funding would clearly be an issue.
